Raven Skye is a Contemporary Western Artist whose desire to create visual work can be traced back to her childhood. Growing up on her rural family farm, surrounded by forests, she would spend hours on end every day, exploring & observing all manners of Nature.
Additionally, her folks were avid campers who always chose the scenic routes, which afforded her a wider lens of observations and experiences, along with explorations & a deep appreciation for National & State parks.
From vast landscapes, to tiny observations in nature, intertwined with her deep-rooted connection to all things rural and rustic, Raven's work is steeped in reminiscent recollections and offers a wondrous invitation to pause, reflect, & remember what is important to you and why, so that life doesn't simply pass you by.
She currently resides in rural Columbia County, Oregon, and has intentionally taken a fresh new approach to her work this year, in 2024, as she describes feeling overwhelmingly compelled to dedicate her main focus, to primarily exploring & creating new work inspired by her observations & experiences from her road-trips to Joshua Tree National Park and the surrounding desert areas.
"My work reflects my adoration and appreciation for time spent exploring...vast landscapes...to tiny observations in nature, intertwined with my deep-rooted connection to all things rural and rustic, steeped in reminiscent recollections.
I create much of my work in the studio, but am mindful to balance my in-studio time with
plein-air sessions, camping, and exploring to study and document my subjects, while observing and considering the way the light, wind, shadows and other elements come into play, which enhances my decision making in the studio.
I seek to share fleeting moments that re-kindle a wondrous sense of nostalgia, pique curiosity, and encourage an "eyes wide open approach" to the wonders all around us.
My paintings offer an invitation to slow down and pause, cutting through the frenetic energy of day-to-day society, to take in the details of places and things that go unnoticed as we rush past them in our fast-paced daily lives. I am humbled as I work to portray these fleeting moments and fading, falling-down shelters, preserving their essence in ways that I hope will inspire you to pause, reflect, and remember what is important to you and why, so that life doesn't simply pass you by."
