From vast landscapes to tiny observations in nature, intertwined with her deep-rooted connection to all things rural and rustic, Contemporary Western Artist, Raven Skye's work is steeped in awe, wonder, and reminiscent recollections.
An avid road-tripper with a bucket list of natural wonders that she has been curating since her early childhood, Raven has lived and exhibited on the US East Coast, in Canada, and in the US West where she currently resides.
"There is a definitively, steep learning curve that I must embrace/endure when attempting to capture & convey the essence of these moments that I am so taken by; particularly when I'm in new, (to me), landscapes & eco-systems. I have come to appreciate the ways in which each environment I explore demands my full presence and discipline, challenging me to forget all that I "think" that I know, in order to discover, discern, and translate each subject's unique nuances".
More than static depictions of singular moments of place and time, Raven's work unassumingly conveys an invitation to pause and reflect on what is important to you and why, so that life doesn't simply pass you by.
"My work reflects my adoration and appreciation for time spent exploring...vast landscapes...to tiny observations in nature, intertwined with my deep-rooted connection to all things rural and rustic, steeped in reminiscent recollections.
I create much of my work in the studio, but am mindful to balance my in-studio time with
plein-air sessions, camping, and exploring to study and document my subjects, while observing and considering the way the light, wind, shadows and other elements come into play, which enhances my decision making in the studio.
I seek to share fleeting moments that re-kindle a wondrous sense of nostalgia, pique curiosity, and encourage an "eyes wide open approach" to the wonders all around us.
My paintings offer an invitation to slow down and pause, cutting through the frenetic energy of day-to-day society, to take in the details of places and things that go unnoticed as we rush past them in our fast-paced daily lives. I am humbled as I work to portray these fleeting moments and weathered, timeworn subjects, preserving their essence in ways that I hope will inspire you to pause, reflect, and remember what is important to you and why, so that life doesn't simply pass you by."
